When it comes to portable speakers, we often have to make compromises between sound quality and convenience.

But that’s not the case with the Oberhaus Nomad.

The Nomad is a Bluetooth speaker that breaks the mold and delivers a rich, fun, vivid sound experience. You couldn’t ask for any better from a portable speaker. As an everyday consumer who appreciates great sound, the Nomad surpassed all our expectations.

So let’s delve into the features and performance of the speaker together.

First off, design. The Nomad boasts the familiar cylindrical shape of most portable speakers, a great design choice in our opinion as it is by far the most optimal shape for convenience and usability. Think: easy, natural grip, perfect fit for backpack side pockets, bicycle bottle cages and more.

Despite this similarity, the Nomad still manages to stand out with a bold, distinctive, and yet understated aesthetic. It’s not loud and attention-seeking, but rather quietly alluring and statuesque. The volume controls, which we use most frequently, are thoughtfully designed to be larger for easy adjustment. The rest of the controls and indicators are elegant and minimalistic, making them intuitive to use and understand. Within moments, I was effortlessly navigating the speaker’s features—a testament to the power of great design in simplifying our lives.

Now, let’s dive into what truly sets the Nomad apart: its sound quality. We all know that achieving high-quality audio from a compact speaker is no easy feat. However, Oberhaus has mastered the science of blending technology and sound engineering to create one of the best audio experiences we’ve heard in a portable speaker. Employing the “Precision In, Precision Out” principle, the Nomad features two proprietary technologies that push the boundaries of portable sound.

Firstly, the brand uses Dynamic Precision Matching™ (DPM™) technology to ensure that the signal transmitted to the drivers aligns perfectly with the recorded rhythm and tempo of your favorite tracks aka ‘Precision In’. The result is an exact replication of the music as it was originally intended in the artist’s recording studio. We were blown away by the clarity and detail that the Nomad brought to every note and beat.

But it doesn’t stop there. Oberhaus’ AdaptiveEQ™ technology, known as ‘Precision Out’, automatically adjusts the speaker’s equalization settings to match the acoustic properties of your listening environment. This intelligent system, equipped with sensors and a responsive algorithm, enhances the overall audio presentation, delivering a natural and accurate soundstage. The level of refinement achieved by the Nomad is nothing short of remarkable.

When it comes to sound reproduction, I dare say that the Nomad is unparalleled in the realm of portable speakers under $400. Their attention to detail even goes down to custom designing their very own speaker fabric to further enhance the audio performance, by removing unwanted resonances and adding richness and depth. Whether you’re enjoying your favorite tunes or immersing yourself in a movie soundtrack, the Nomad is an excellent choice to listen to music both indoors or outdoors.

Of course, the Nomad also boasts other features that we expect from a portable speaker, such as an IPX7 waterproof rating, a generous 12-hour battery life, and a lightweight design that makes it easy to take on-the-go. Additionally, the Bluetooth connection proved to be exceptional when I tested it in our indoor set-up, allowing for seamless playback up to a range of 12.2 meters, a significant lead over most competitors.

While I do wish the Nomad had a dustproof rating, I can accept this minor omission in exchange for its exceptional sound quality. During my tests, I took the Nomad to the beach, placing it directly on the sand without any issues. The speaker fabric and overall build has a big part to play in blocking out small particles. Examining Nomad’s tightly woven fabric and robust, sealed package, I’m fairly confident that the portable speaker will still perform well in rugged terrains or places where air quality is less than ideal.

In conclusion, as an avid music lover, sound quality is paramount to me – and the Oberhaus Nomad exceeded our expectations for a portable speaker of its price. It breaks the traditional barriers of portable audio, delivering a level of precision, clarity, and richness that will make you re-think the limits of what a portable speaker can achieve (at least it did for us).

With Oberhaus setting a new standard, I have no doubt that other brands will take notice of this remarkable newcomer in the industry.
