The Mid-Autumn Festival is already around the corner, which means it is finally time to feast on mooncakes!
Every year, bakeries, hotels and cafes create a variety of delicious mooncakes that leave us all overwhelmed with choices.
But fret not, because here at BestinSingapore.com, we conducted a blind taste test of Singapore’s best mooncakes – to find the best mooncake of them all!
Methodology – Finding the King of All Mooncakes
For this blind taste test, we sourced for new and interesting mooncake flavors and narrowed down to the 8 most unique mooncakes in Singapore!
We narrowed down to these top 8 participants: Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium, Kele, Aroma Truffle, Swensen’s, The Durian Bakery, Ding Mooncake, Baker’s Brew and Andaz Singapore!
With blindfolds on, 19 employees at BestinSingapore.com tried each mooncake and gave ratings according to the taste.
After collating the results, we are pleased to announce that the “Best Tasting Mooncake” award in Singapore 2022 goes to… *drumrolls please*… The Durian Bakery’s Black Thorn Durian Mooncake!
Winner: The Durian Bakery’s Black Thorn Durian Mooncake
The Best-Tasting Mooncake of 2022

It was a unanimous decision that The Durian Bakery’s Black Thorn Durian Mooncake deserves the title of the Best-Tasting Mooncake of 2022!
This was by far the best durian mooncake I ever tried before, with each bite bringing delightful flavors to my palate; bittersweet, rich, creamy and a slight alcoholic taste! Together with the soft, chewy snow skin, this combination is definitely a match made in heaven! You have to try it yourself to believe it!
These mooncakes went far beyond all our expectations and we definitely indulged ‘The Richest Durian Experience’. Upon tasting the mooncake, our staff knew that the mooncake had durian fillings in it, but it tasted so different from the normal classic durian mooncakes that we were left in awe! We could tell that they were using premium quality durians in their mooncake!

Not to our surprise, The Durian Bakery was using an extremely rare and exquisite Black Thorn Durian, sourced from 2018’s Durian World Champion, Serene Orchard. The Black Thorn is so rare that it has a waiting time of 2 years in some places! With only 200 boxes available in Singapore, we were glad that we got the chance to try such an extravagant flavor! With such a unique and impressive flavor, there is no doubt that The Durian Bakery deserves 1st place in this blind taste test!

4. Ding Mooncake | 2022 New Snowskin Mooncakes
Award-winning Ding Mooncake has spent 2 years conducting R&D to perfect their snowskin mooncake flavors. During the blind taste test, the staff had a taste of their newest edition: Korean Yuzu Snowskin Mooncake, Authentic Gula Melaka Snowskin Mooncake, French Earl Gray Lavender Snowskin Mooncake, as well as Treviso Tiramisu Snowskin Mooncake.
We all loved the mixture of flavors and the texture of the snowskin! As a coffee lover, I would say my favorite would be the Treviso Tiramisu Snowskin Mooncake! It sounds like a strange combination; tiramisu and mooncake, but the taste definitely surprised me and I couldn’t stop eating it! It was creamy, bittersweet and rich!

The mooncakes from Baker’s Brew had a very earthy and savory taste, leaning more towards the familiar taste of classic traditional mooncakes. The Ispahan Baked Mooncake came as a surprise, with a fruity taste of lychee-infused lotus paste while the Traditional Single Yolk Baked Mooncake tasted like the classic all-time favorite mooncake.

Swensen’s is famous for their ice cream creations and for this year’s Mid Autumn Festival, they are selling mochi-snowkin Ice Cream Mooncakes! Just thinking about ice cream fillings wrapped in chewy snowskin would surely leave one mouthwatering! Who could resist these creamy and chewy cold treats?
All our staff love ice cream and this came as a delight to all of us! There were 4 flavors: Sticky Chewy Chocolate, Cookies ‘N’ Cream, Durian King (D24) and Chempedak. The flavors were not very unique, but we sure loved a yummy cold dessert that comes in the form of a mooncake!
