Japan seems to have a knack for the whimsical and adorable. Not only is it home to at least three cat islands, but the country also popularized the cat café concept.

Cat cafés, when operated in good faith, can unload some burden off of animal shelters. Pets of all shapes and sizes deserve a caring home; patrons can help finance that sanctuary without having to commit to a serious responsibility.

Gathered here are the best cat cafés in Singapore. Whether you already love them or are looking to warm up to the adorable animal, cat cafés are a perfect place to while away those homebound weekend hours.

The Cat Cafe is one of the most well-known in Singapore. It first opened its door in 2014, with an outlet in Bugis that is now home to 15 cats. This year, the cafe marked its presence in the West by securing a foothold in Rail Mall.

The chain is founded by two feline lovers, Candice and Jefferson, who saw the business as an opportunity to rescue more homeless cats. As such, their cats were all either strays or adopted from shelters.

Enjoy two hours of the cats’ company while sipping a complimentary soft drink for S$16. Alternatively, upgrade to a cup of freshly brewed coffee, tea or chocolate. The cafe also serves up some delectable desserts. Every subsequent half hour costs S$4.

Catopia was originally set up in 2016 as a cat boarding house. However, demand for such services ceased after the Covid-19 pandemic puts a halt in the travel industry. As a result, founder Kevin Chiak had to get innovative to survive.

Along with 22 cats, the former Mr Singapore relocated to a two-storey storefront in Little India to incorporate F&B into its business model. Apart from cakes and coffee, the modest kitchen also serves waffles with ice cream. A nearby space continues to function as a cat hotel, which allows owners to check their felines in to enjoy free-flow food and professional care.

Pay S$12 for the first hour and get a complimentary drink. Every half hour after costs S$6. Additionally, the café has plans to hold weekly adoption drives. Stay tuned to their Facebook page if you’re interested.
